Programming Google App Engine

The Book Blog Begins

Welcome to the website for the upcoming book, Programming Google App Engine, to be published by O'Reilly Media, Inc. in 2009. I'm Dan, the author. I'll be using this blog to report updates on the book as it is being written, and to post general tips and items of interest to Google App Engine developers. Eventually, this site will support the book with downloadable code samples and other resources.

I'm excited about the opportunity to work with you, the reader, to improve the book before it goes to print. You can subscribe to the Rough Cuts edition to see early drafts as the book is written, and submit feedback at this site. You can also subscribe to the feed to follow the blog in your feed reader or browser. I'll post to the blog whenever a new draft is available for download.

Drafts of the first few chapters are already available in Rough Cuts, and we'll have a few more by the end of the year. I'm focusing on the App Engine datastore first because it's by far the most sophisticated aspect of developing an app. From basics to inner workings to best practices, the book will cover the datastore in detail over multiple chapters.

What else can I be doing to help you get the most out of the book, the Rough Cuts process, and App Engine? Let me know in email or in comments.
